Hand Facials: What Are They?

Don’t let the word “facial” fool you. Facials can be applied to almost any part of the body including your hands! Whilst you're familiar with the smoothing, soothing benefits of a facial, you’re probably not aware of the amazing benefits a hand facial can provide, and following a year of reapplying anti-bac, it’s time you got to know all about it...

What Is a Hand Facial?

Hand facials are extremely similar to the facials you get done to your face. The treatments generally begin with a light massage and a cleanse to make sure any bacteria and oil has been eliminated from the skin. After that it typically involves using an exfoliating product on the skin, eliminating a lot of the dead skin cells and creating a fresh base. Finally the hand facial ends with a hydrating hand cream to give your hands the moisture boost it needs.

Step 1: Cleanse Away

Kick things off with a gentle cleanse. Most sanitisers and hand soaps are fresh but harsh on the skin, the ingredients are often synthetic and contain chemicals that aren’t kind to your hands. The alcohol they contain is perfect for killing bacteria but it also can be extremely drying and strip your skin of its moisture. So a gentle, clean formula with nourishing ingredients is best. Try out the Nesti Dante Paradiso Tropicale Coconut and Frangipani Soap, infused with a floral fruity scent and smoothing ingredients, it’s perfect for your hand cleanse!

Step 2: Exfoliate

Who doesn’t love a good facial exfoliation? We know we do! Exfoliating your hands is extremely satisfying too. A delicate exfoliation can polish away dead skin cells, revealing smoother, softer hands and who wouldn’t want that. Start off with your choice of exfoliation product, here at FD we’re loving the DECLEOR 1000 Grains Body Exfoliator Super Size. This indulgent scrub helps provide your skin with a velvety-smooth finish. Enriched with grapefruit essential oil and pearl sugar, it gives it a fresh, invigorating fragrance. Exfoliate away!

Step 3: Hydrate & Moisturise

Our favourite part of a hand facial - the moisturising step! As a rule people tend to forget about their hands and don’t moisturise as much as they should do. If your hands are feeling neglected in the hydration department then make sure to follow this step carefully. Apply a thick layer of a soft hand cream. We recommended the Australian Bodycare Hand Cream, this vegan cream features natural ingredients and has been dermatologically tested too. If you’re feeling brave then pop an old pair of clean socks on top of your hands to lock all of the moisture in, leaving your hands to soak up all the nutrients!
