Paco Rabanne had phenomenal success when they launched their fragrance, 1 Million in 2008. Since its launch, it's managed to sell 23 million bottles in a record amount of time. Now that's impressive.

So what were Paco Rabanne's first thoughts when it came to designing their newest fragrance, entitled Invictus?

The new scent is a big change from 1 Million's warm amber musk, which was clearly a big hit with Paco Rabanne followers. Invictus is the new 'hero' scent from the brand which is accompanied by a very sexy TV advert. Paco Rabanne have pulled out all the stops to ensure that Invictus is envisaged as the new essential scent for men. So we're here to tell you just why Invictus is that good.

First of all, can we please take a minute to talk about the God-like packaging? You need to award yourself with Invictus, if not for the scent, then solely for the bottle. The fragrance is housed in a Trophy-like case; symbolic of strength and champions. The almost mythical packaging is modeled by Australian Rugby League Player, Nick Youngquest who we agree is the most suitable candidate for a fragrance of this caliber. Sportsmanship is at the root of this scent which focuses on turning the modern day man into a gladiator.

But what about the scent itself? We are quick to assume that sport inspired fragrances have a tendency to focus on extreme levels of freshness and cleanliness, which is good in perspective but sometimes can be a little overpowering and dare we say, stereotypical. Invictus is unique in the sense that when you spray it, you're immediately met with a sense of freshness. Notes of grapefruit, spice and metal fuse together to ensnare the senses and pull you in, leaving you feeling victorious; a winner. Invictus has a heart of aromatic bay leaf and hedione jasmine which is superbly rounded off with base of guaiac wood, patchouli, oak moss and ambergris.
