2022 is going to be a big year for beauty lovers, with tons of new and exciting trends to try out. While some you’ll have seen before (hello, nineties), others are very much unique takes on modern beauty. From colourful eye looks to the return of the gloss, there’s something for everyone in this line-up of makeup trends.

#1. Tantouring

Tantouring is a new way to contour that is taking over the beauty world. A combination of tanning and contouring, tantouring uses self-tanner to create the illusion of sculpted cheekbones, a defined jawline, and a slimmer nose. This trend is perfect for those who want to achieve a natural-looking glow without the sun damage, not to mention those who want to wake up with flawless no-effort contour.

To get the perfect tantour, start by cleaning and priming your face with your favourite exfoliator to create a smooth canvas. Then, using a brush, apply your self-tanner in the same areas you would when contouring, along your jawline, under your cheekbones and to the sides of your nose. Blend out well, exactly as you would with contour products. Once the tanning solution has developed, enjoy your bronzed, defined look for up to a week.

#2. Statement Eyes

It’s all about statement eyes this season. Glitter and bright eye makeup are the looks du jour, spotted everywhere from Euphoria's acclaimed show to the spring runway. What we love most about this trend is that you have full creative control over the final look - you can go as subtle or as bold as you want.

For an easy look on your next evening out, try adding a rhinestone to the inner corners of your eyes to make them pop. This is a simple yet effective style you’ll be seeing everywhere over the coming months. Or, if you’re feeling daring, try out a bright, colourful eyeshadow look, complete with a vibrant liner

#3. Freckles

An extension of the no-makeup-makeup look that we’ve been loving over the last few years, faux freckles are a great way to add some playfulness and whimsy to your look. Adding freckles is also a great way to make full coverage foundation appear more natural, breaking up the solid wash of colour.

The simplest way to create your own freckles is with a brown liner, dotting it lightly over the bridge of your nose and upper cheeks. However, 2022 is all about working smarter, not harder, so try combining two trends in one and adding freckles with self-tanner at the same time you do your tantouring. And, if you’re blessed with freckles naturally... embrace them.

#4. High-Gloss Lips

Bye-bye matte-effect, this year we’re puckering up with luscious, glossy lips that look infinitely more fresh and youthful. Whether you’re going for a natural clear look or something brighter, the juicy, hydrated glass-looking lip is a must-wear trend for 2022.

Invest in a quality lip gloss to wear on its own or layer it over your favourite lipstick for an added hint of colour. To achieve an even more high-gloss look, opt for a lip gloss with a glittery or metallic finish - va va voom! Enjoy the healthy, youthful appeal of a glossy, kissable pout regardless of which approach you choose.

#5. Bold Blush

Another hot makeup trend for 2022 is a pop of bold colour on your cheeks. Vibrant peach and pink shades are the go-to choices for the look; the bolder, the better. The key is that less is not more where this trend is concerned. Apply your blush generously to the cheeks, layering until you’re happy with the final effect.

For 2022, blush shouldn’t be applied to the apples of your cheeks, and instead, apply in a “C” shape from the highest point of your cheek to your eye crease. While you should concentrate the colour on the cheek, bringing a little of it up toward your temple lifts your face for a more youthful glow.

#6. Bushy Brows

Thank you kindly, Miss Delevigne; the trend for full bushy brows is still going strong this year with no signs of stopping. This low-maintenance brow is ideal for a natural and effortless look, but you can still rock the trend even if you’re not blessed with dark, bushy brows.

Brow lamination has become a common offering in salons throughout the UK, with one treatment giving you fuller brows for up to six weeks. For a simple solution at home, choose a brow mousse, powder, or pencil in a colour that matches your own, and experiment with using it to add shape and texture.

So there you have it, a collection of the biggest makeup trends to look out for in 2022. Give one a try today and find a new glam or everyday look you’re sure to love.
