Founded in 1924, an age of style and dynamism, HUGO BOSS has made a name for itself across the globe for its unfussy, luxurious fashion lines. Known for applying the same understated and quality approach to all their clothing, from casualwear to tailored suits, it’s a brand people have relied on to feel great for decades, and their fragrance collection has exactly the same appeal.
Hugo Ferdinand Boss was born in 1885 in the southern German town of Metzingen, he founded his clothing company in 1923 after serving in the First World War as a corporal. After filing for bankruptcy in 1931, he reached an agreement with his creditors to start again with just six sewing machines. His company initially produced shirts and jackets and then began producing a number of uniforms. From 1933 onwards, Boss made uniforms for the German military. When Boss died in 1948, the factory returned to making uniforms for postal and police workers.
Hugo Boss is one of the most famous luxury fashion and style houses in the world, the physical embodiment of authentic and understated luxury.
The first men’s suit, something that Hugo Boss are now renowned for, was produced in 1953.
Hugo Boss’ son in law took over the company when the founder died in 1948 and this is when the company began to prosper by manufacturing readymade suits. Hugo Boss became an international brand in the 1970’s and this is when the name really took off. To popularise the name, they began to sponsor Formula One Drivers and subsequently added golf and tennis events to its marketing strategy.
