Paul Smith

Sir Paul Smith was born in Nottingham in 1946, and had originally planned to pursue a career in professional cycling. Upon leaving school at 15, his father made him work at a clothing warehouse, but Smith was only interested in his cycle rides to and from work. When a bad accident put an end to his cycling hopes, he began to take an interest in fashion design. He took evening classes in tailoring, and worked for a time on the famous Savile Row before establishing his own label in 1970. Due to his understanding of both fashion and retail, Paul Smith has grown his fashion label into one of the most popular in the world, with boutiques from Tokyo to Las Vegas.
