Francisco Rabeneda Cuervo, more commonly known as Paco Rabanne, was born in the Basque area of Spain in 1934, but fled to France with his mother to escape the Spanish Civil War. He originally trained as an architect, but he decided to pursue a career in fashion design in the 60s, creating jewellery for the likes of Givenchy and Dior before launching his own fashion house in 1966. His eccentric designs earned him a reputation as the lenfant terrible of the French fashion world. Today, Paco Rabanne remains one of the biggest fashion houses in the industry, and have since moved into the world of fragrances with scents such as 1 Million and Black XS.
