Born in Japan in 1938, Issey Miyake studied graphic design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, and worked in Paris and New York before returning to Tokyo to open his own design studio. In the 1980s he discovered a new technique of fabric design called garment pleating, which made the fabrics more flexible for both the wearer and the production process. The Issey Miyake brand is now divided into different brands and collections, including men’s and women’s lines, watches, and of course perfumes. The first Issey Miyake fragrance, L’eau d’Issey, was launched in 1992, and has since been joined by A Scent, L’eau d’Issey Homme and L’eau Bleu d’Issey Eau Fraiche.
