Carmex lip balm was created by Alfred Woelbing in the 1930s, as he was seeking a solution for cold sores and chapped lips, which is often suffered from. He and his wife began selling the balm from the boot of his car around his home state of Milwaukee, using their now-famous yellow-capped pots. Today, Carmex is also available in sticks and tubes, and contains SPF15 protection from the sun’s harmful rays.
